Hey Poppa Bear:
Good work on taking on the Bull-oggers in their home turf. Especially about the "big delay" in all those projects for waterfront property owners.
Five - count 'em - five councillors voted to delay voting on a zoning change for waterfront property owners until the first week of June. The reason for this is that many waterfront property owners do not live in those properties in the winter. Of course, the Bull-oggers assume that all the waterfront property owners affected by the zoning change are all rich Americans who can't be bothered to come to Fort Erie in the dead of winter to go on record on the zoning change. The bloggers might want to do some homework on that. They might discover that many of the waterfront property owners live thousands of miles away in the winter and that many of them are Canadians. And while they're at it, they might want to check out how much said waterfront property owners pay in taxes every year for the privilege of living on Fort Erie's waterfront for a few months each year.
There were two meetings held about the zoning change: one in December and the other in January. Hardly easy for summer residents to attend, regardless of where they are located. Considering that those summer residents' property taxes may be impacted by the zoning change, it would be considerate and an example of transparency to wait until the majority of those property owners are available. To the Bull-oggers however, it is a sure sign that the summer residents control four members of council - even though they were joined in the vote by Councillor Rick Shular who at least recognizes how important it is to give this consideration to the high tax paying waterfront property owners.
It would make sense to anyone - anyone that is, except the Bull-oggers. They are trying to tie this consideration in with the treatment of the owners of Rose Hill Auction who have been given many extensions of their plans to build on their property and who have been given a final drop-dead date to build or else suffer a penalty. There is a big difference between a 90 day delay and a years long delay. I hope that the council starts pushing developers to complete the many projects on the books that have been given delay after delay. For people who purport to be in favour of development, they seem to cherry pick the developments that they support. People like me are against one development and one only: The Bay Beach Project. Otherwise most, including the four councillors, are in favour of development - even the Canadian Motor Speedway. (I'm one of a few who are questioning the veracity of the project.)
BTW, I just posted your latest comment on the previous thread. It is true that Greggers has a "thing" about people with mental illness. He has trashed one person who bravely admitted he suffers from Bi-Polar Disorder (See Silver Linings Playbook) and myself as I have been forthcoming about my struggles with anxiety and depression. I have worked hard since my diagnosis to help others overcome their fear of stigmatization to get help. I helped set up a program to help those with phobias and anxiety to overcome their fears. I started a support group for people with depression and anxiety and I served on the Niagara District Health Council's Mental Health Advisory Committee. The biggest challenge we face is overcoming the ignorance about mental illness. People like Greggers should be reported to the Canadian Mental Health Association. They do not take kindly to such behaviour.
People who are trying to get on disability for fibromyalgia should note that depression and anxiety are often symptoms of the disease. Right, Greggers?
