Well, sort of. To those hoping for an apology from the mayor for his totally unprofessional and mean-spirited rant in the previous televised regular meeting of the Fort Erie Council, they were, once again, disappointed.
But he did "clarify" his previous statements to say that his comments regarding the "process" in no way were a criticism of the consultants who handled the selection process of the candidates for the position of CAO. He praised the company for its professionalism, helpfulness. "They did a fabulous job," he said. (Editor's Note: bet he got a phone call from the consultant after his rant was aired on Cogeco because, to the viewer, it certainly appeared that he was blaming "the process" and that the head hunters played a major role in "the process." Oops. Another FAIL from Hizzoner.) He managed to throw in a final insult, saying he was "concerned with the results" of the process. Still can't admit that he was way out of line with his whole rant.
It was a quick meeting, highlighted by a presentation from Hazel Rhinehart speaking on behalf of the Fort Erie Arts Council. Very informative and positive about plans for the future and an update on the group's progress.
Of course, Stephen Passero had to move right in during the "question period" with his own self-congratulations because he had coffee with Hazel and helped create the name for the consolidated group. (Editor's Note: does anyone know what Stephen Passero does for a living except run for mayor?)
Later on, Passero again tried to take over the meeting by "revisiting" a vote taken last week on a revised Draft Plan Agreement for Phase 3 of Ridgeway-by-the-Lake. It had been voted down in the previous week, but Passero, ever mindful of the television cameras, chose to try to discredit the previous week's vote by questioning Town Planner, Mr. Brady about the revised plan that had been turned down the week before. Ward 5 Councillor Don Lubberts was able to get Brady to admit on record that the original draft plan met all provincial planning policies. Lubberts offered that, should the issue go to the OMB, as threatened by the developer Rob Mills, the town could be found to be using "good planning" by endorsing the original plan, although, according to Brady, the revised plan was also within good planning guidelines.
Finally, even Rick Shular couldn't take it any more, calling the entire conversation "mute." (sic) Then a question was put forward that asked if any of the previous "nays" would like to change their vote. Nope. Discussion over.
Just another night of posturing and damage control, brought to you by Hizzoner and a wannabe.
And did Kim Craitor just try to distance himself from the Fort Erie Racetrack?
“Even with the slots there, it could not function. Fort Erie
had slots and they continued to lose money,” said
Craitor in reaction to the Conservative party’s motion
calling for the review.
